Since 2017, Lily Douglas, 14, of Perth, had been battling Ewing Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer that attacks bones and the tissues that surround them.

With her posts about life with the disease and happy snaps as she met celebrities like Arlene Phillips and AJ Pritchard, she amassed thousands of Instagram followers.

Lily was sent to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary on Friday 14 January after suffering a brain bleed ahead of a potential breakthrough medicine study.

Lily's mother Jane, 52, has informed via social media that Lily unfortunately died yesterday night after showing optimistic signals when she awoke.

Lily had won the Pride of Scotland Award for Teenager of Courage and had developed strong friendships with celebrities such as Dame Arlene Phillips and Lewis Capaldi from Strictly Come Dancing.

During her appearance on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! last year, Arlene, 78, even raved about how Lily had motivated her to participate in the programme.

'One of the boldest, most courageous females I know is a little girl named Lily Douglas, she's very fearless,' she remarked.

'Here I am terrified of so many things,' I thought. What better way to test your limits than to do something like this?'
