Hoda Kotb and Joel Schiffman breakup

Hoda Kotb
and Joel Schiffman have called it quits after an eight-year relationship.

The former couple,
who were engaged in November 2019, are now friends and parents to their daughters, Haley, 4, and Hope, 2, respectively.

"People have written in
and asked why I wasn't wearing my engagement ring," Kotb shared on Monday's Today With Hoda & Jenna.

The 57-year-old morning show anchor shared that she and Schiffman are no longer a couple going into this new year.

"We determined that
this New Year would be the start of our new road as loving parents to our lovely, delightful children and as friends," she stated.

"I believe relationships
are supposed to be there for a purpose, a season, or a lifetime, and I believe ours was meant to be there for a season."

Kotb admitted to
struggling with the announcement, adding, "This is weird and awkward. I really was struggling with this.

'What should I say, how should I express it?' I thought to myself. But I get the impression that we frequently communicate the happy parts of our lives.

Kotb told her co-host, Jenna
Bush Hager, after announcing the condition of her relationship with Schiffman, "I'm relieved to have said it. I'm feeling much better now."
